Staying on Course

One day I had to drive my son to Sacramento for a doctor’s visit. This is about a two-hour drive from my house. As I was driving all of a sudden nothing looked familiar to me. So what does a logical mother who has three kids in the car do, “I PANIC” I had only lived in this area less then a year. I had no idea where I was! There were no buildings or markers just rice fields and they all look the same! I start reaching for my phone trying to read my map quest but there’s no reception. I turn and ask my kids 8, 5, and 4 do you recognize where we are? Then my little four year old says “Yes mommy there’s that same bird” I surrender time to pull over and then I see that familiar marker. I sigh, “Thank you Lord” I now know I’m headed in the right direction. Sometimes...

“Red Bag”

This morning as I got up I did the usual things before I went to work. First thing “of course” was get the coffee on, take a hot shower, serve my coffee, get dressed, put my make up on, and I’m ready to go out the door. My husband helps me carry my stuff we say good bye and I’m off to a long day at work As I’m driving something gnaws at me. My brain is now starting to calculate all the things my husband and I carried and put in my car. “My Red Bag!” I don’t see my red bag! “I panic!” I look at my watch, there’s no way I can go back “I have a busy day today, I can’t be late.” So to make sure I call my husband and he says “Yes your red bag is here.” My heart sinks, I get pissy, I think how am I going to make my day without my “red bag.” Then here comes the “Bam!”...

It’s In The Trash Mom!

A few days ago my son came crashing in the house yelling, “Mommy, Mommy Julie said a really bad word.” I knew this was serious stuff because he was clearly out of breath from running so fast. Just then Julie came up right behind him saying, “Not true mom not true!“ These two siblings are very close and rarely have an issue that needs serious scrutiny so now they have my full attention. What is going on,” I ask. At the same time one says, “She said a really bad word” as the other said “NO I didn’t” I try to keep a straight face as I investigate the crime. I ask Josh what did Julie say and he proceeds to tell me the word as long as I promise he won’t get in trouble. Okay now my patience is running thin. I learn the word and before I can deal with Julie she cries...

Expectations

As I was driving to work this morning the word expectations would not leave my thoughts. I realized from the moment I woke up I was mentally making a “I expect this list” for my husband, children, and co workers at my salon. My list for my husband and co-workers was pretty short but when it came to my kids the list was “soo” long. For most of my thirty minute drive I thought about all the things I expected from each and everyone of my kids. Then “BAM“ it hit me “Foolish thinking” I realize I expect my kids to be experienced soldiers for Christ. I lay down all these expectations and expect them to obey my laws. I ask myself this all the time, “Why do I do this?” Is it more important how they look on the...

Kitchen Sink

This morning as I was pouring a cup of coffee I couldn’t help  look at the kitchen sink. I know this might sound funny but I purposely try every morning not to glance at it. In our home we all have chores and one is keeping the kitchen sink clean. Something so simple has become  an impossible task. There always seems to be one dirty thing left in the sink even after I have asked for it to be cleaned. I say thing because its not always dishes! After three attempts to get it done I finally ask my daughter why are the dirty dishes now on the counter her response is, “You said to clean the sink not the dishes.” It took every bit of self control not to get angry. Sadly I lost this battle the enemy pulled me in. There was a jail break and anger...
